Beginner Course - BASI Level 1

For people who have never skied or snowboarded before. The course is a 10-week program, and is primarily a practical on-snow course with evening lectures covering various teaching, technical and safety topics. The course takes you from the basics of how to put your skis on to gaining your level 1 BASI Ski or Snowboard Instructor Licence. This qualification enables you to teach on artificial ski slopes and is the pre-requisite for sitting the BASI level 2 course.

Coaching is Monday to Friday with the weekends generally free, though this may occasionally change due to weather conditions. The course is physically and mentally demanding and we strongly recommend that you have a good level of fitness.

There will be a maximum of 10 people per group and each person will have their own experienced and dedicated mentor. The mentor will assess each person on an individual basis and construct a personal development program to include:

What's Covered

  • From the basics to performance skiing/boarding
  • The fundamental elements of skiing or snowboarding
  • Teaching tools and techniques
  • Use of video analysis
  • Mountain safety
  • Practical teaching experience
  • Customer Care
  • Après-ski
These are all geared up towards passing the BASI Ski/Board level 1 instructor course (except maybe the après-ski).
